# Course editor

> Modules, lessons, slash commands, media, quizzes, and preview.

The editor is a block document. Type `/` in a lesson to insert a block.

## Build the curriculum

<Steps>
  <Step title="Add modules and lessons">
    A course is modules, each with lessons. Empty modules are dropped on publish. Give every lesson a title.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Write with blocks">
    Paragraphs, headings, lists, numbered steps, quotes, quizzes, assignments, video, and file attachments.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Attach media">
    Open the media library from a video or file block. Upload from **Content Library**, or pick an existing asset. Video is transcoded for playback; while it is encrypting, learners see that state rather than a broken player.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Preview">
    Preview plays the course as a student, including drip locks. You can preview without publishing.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Save or publish">
    **Save draft** keeps it off the catalogue. **Publish** (needs publish permission) puts it live. Saving a draft does not notify learners.
  </Step>
</Steps>

<Warning>
  Starting a brand-new course with **Start fresh** throws away an unsaved draft. Editing an existing published course does not delete the live version until you publish again.
</Warning>

## Quizzes and assignments

Quizzes record attempts and can complete the lesson when passed. Assignments collect a learner response. Video progress can also complete a lesson when the video finishes, depending on how the lesson is set up.
